Prayers for Cindy

Good Sunday to you. Today I'm asking my readers for a favor. Please pray for Cindy, she has been struck by that awful thing we call cancer. I don't personally know Cindy, but I do know God and I know HE can make miracles. I also believe in the Power of Prayer. So this is why I am sharing this with you!
You can read her story here:

Cindy is in critical condition. It's hour by hour. Please share and pray for her. via Funky Junk Interiors

Thank you. Have a blessed Sunday!

She's leaving for college!

Well, just 2 more days before I drop our "baby" off at college! It's a bitter sweet moment for me! I am so sad about not having her home. No more friday night football (I loved watching her cheer), sharing nail polish, watching her bake. But I am excited about the new chapter in her life as a Texas Aggie!

We went shopping yesterday for those "college neccesseties", on the list was bath towels. She bought 4 bath towels in cute, bright colors. I suggested we personalize them in some way just in case any of her room mates bought the same colors.

Here's what we did. She found a "K" font that she liked and printed out in a pretty big size. Not sure what size she used, but you get the idea.
Then we ironed on some Heat Bond Lite to some fabric scraps she chose to go with her towels.

We ironed the "K" onto the towels and then I machine stitched them on to make the washable.

Pretty cute, huh?

Sorry about the "off" colors..my photos aren't as good as they should be. The pinkish towel is actually a pretty fuschia and the blue is a torquoise.

I was thinking as I was stitching these on...when she was going into PreK I would write her name on everything! And now, as she enters college, I'm still personalizing her stuff! LOL

These were fun and I'm sure she will enjoy using them and remembering the day we put them together!

I'm gonna miss you my Lil' Aggie, but I'm so proud of you and the adventures that lie ahead of you!

Thanks for visiting. Have a wonderful Saturday!

Quick Teacher's Gifts

Really these could be a quick gift for anyone! I kept one for myself! Hope your Friday is going well. I have spent most of my day cleaning, but every once in a while I get the urge to do some crafting.

Sometimes I need some "instant gratification"....this project was perfect for that!

I found this pack of notepads at WalMart. It had 4 for just under a dollar. The box of golf pencils were found at Goodwill ($2 for about 150), and I had the ponytail ties ($1).
I also went thru my stash of scrapbooking stuff and just grabbed some embellishments.
And this is what I made:

I used XL brads, chipboard, felt flowers, etc.

Okay...now back to house cleaning!! Have a wonderful weekend!

Fun Finds at Goodwill!

Happy Monday to all of you! I had a super fun weekend in Austin. I had a wonderful time visiting my college son, sight seeing, eating good food...and shopping at a wonderful Goodwill!!

I have recently gotten interested in Smash books...I haven't started one yet...but I am collecting goodies so when I do start! LOL

I have seen the new Martha Stewart binders from Staples, but I live an hour from the nearest one and haven't gotten in there, so I was thrilled to find this one at Goodwill, brand new for $3.

A swinger stapler w/ staples (.99), works great!
A box of 144 golf pencils (1.99), for cute little notebooks!
A new RingDex  w/ over 100 index cards (.99) for a cute mini Smash book!
A new 8.5x5 binder ($3) great for a day planner!
A "I love My Dog" pocket scrapbook (.99)!
And look at these beauties!!!

a beautiful glass jar for storage (1.99)
and a Vera Bradley business card holder (.99)

I knew nothing about the little grater until I googled it! Wow!!! What a bargain! These retail for about $30! And I found a Vera Bradley wallet like this one on Ebay for $16. So I think I got some pretty good deals!!!

I found many more items, but these were the "buys" that excited me!!! LOL

Thanks for visiting! Have a wonderful Monday!

A Denim Bag and Quilt Scraps

This is what I had to work with today:

A larger denim tote bag that was given to me about 2 years ago! And a quilt that has been much loved and cut into...my Mom found this at a thrift store for $2.

After thinking for a few minutes..and drinking a glass of sweet tea..
I decided to make this!

For my owl pattern, I simply drew out an owl figure onto some old newspaper. I then pinned it onto my quilt piece and cut it out.
For the eyes, I used some plain cotton fabric and cut the circles using my Spellbinders dies and my Cuttlebug.  The triangle nose was cut free hand.

Pretty simple deal. And took less than an hour to put together. My kind of craft!

It all started with a ruffled skirt...

When I first saw this little girl's ruffled skirt at the thrift shop, I just KNEW I had to have it! I loved all the pretty ruffles and the color combo: gray and yellow!! And for $2, it was a steal! This skirt was about a size 10 in little girls. The only label on it said "65"
But, I wasn't sure what I would do with it..til' one day it hit me!
Please forgive the blurry picture...I took it a few months ago with my cellphone.

I found this cute fat quarter at WalMart and it matched really well. A bargain for 75 cents! I found these purse straps many moons ago on clearance for $1 but can't remember where.
So maybe a ruffled purse, right?  That would be cute........
But instead, I made my sister a Ruffled Apron! I had been stalking her Pinterest trying to decide what to give her for her birthday. She had pinned a cute ruffled apron. So here is my version:
FRONT OF APRON:

First I cut the elastic band off of the skirt. I then opened up the skirt by cutting up one of the seams.
I measured how wide the skirt should be by wrapping it around me. (very technical, I know) Trimmed off the excess.  I then turned the sides of the skirt in a bit and stitched the raw edges. With the polka dotted fabric, I made a band and stitched that on.

BACK OF APRON:
I loved the fact that skirt, (now apron) had a thin, white lining fabric. It just finished off the apron so well. I was really pleased with my "repurposing project" and hope my sister was just as pleased with her "new" apron!

New Meljen's Challenge!

Good morning!! I hope everyone had a wonderful 4th of July! Ours was sort of quiet. Stayed home with the hubby and he grilled burgers for us. I had one son working and the other lives away..so it was just our daughter and us. Guess that's what happens when the kids grow up. {{{sigh}}}.

I can't complain...it was a nice, relaxing day. Until my dryer stopped working. {{sigh}}. It runs, but doesn't heat. Not good for a dryer that's only 2 years old! Guess I'll be looking for a repairman today!

On a brighter note, today is the day for another fun challenge at Meljen's Designs. The theme for Challenge #117 is to use RED or BLUE.

Card Details: Digi Image-Meljen's Designs, Senitment-Microsoft Works, Patterned Paper-My Mind's Eye, Misc. Machine Stitching, Buttons, Twine, and Stickles.
